365 Pictures week 32-34; 5 - 25 August

Hi everyone,
I starting working on this on our family vacation & was hoping to post from Chattanooga, Tennessee!!!  But things got busy & didn't have time or internet access last Saturday so had to wait.  Then I worked & had two weeks worth, but then was never home enough to get it posted in time for last week soooooooooooo now here is three weeks worth of my life.  Vacations are done, boys are back/moved to college & I think we will be staying home for awhile.  So sit back, grab a cup of coffee or tea or whatever you drink when you read a book & enjoy.

We went on a family vacation to North Carolina & Tennessee to see family & attend the annual Edgmon/Edgemon family reunion of the descendants of my great, great, great, great, great (5th great) grandfather.  So here is a glimpsed into my past two weeks.

Sunday 5 August, 2012

We left Sunday afternoon & drove to Fairview, Illinois.  I did all the driving, so my son Josh took this picture of the St. Louis Arch for me.

Monday 6 August 2012

Today we drove to our first stop - Big Creek Tubing & Camping near Bryson City, NC.  This is the cabin we stayed in for the next 3 days & two nights.  It was very nice, peaceful & relaxing.  The web page said it had cable tv, but forgot to mention that you needed to bring your own tv which we didn't. Also had wifi for the internet & three towers on the campground, but our cabin was far enough away from the towers, we had no internet either.  It was nice to get away from everything & just enjoy each other & nature.

Tuesday 7 August 2012

We went creek/river tubing today in the Smokey National Park.  This creek goes right by our camp site.  It was a 5 min drive, then a 1 mile walk to the starting spot.  It took us 2 to 2 1/2 hours to tube down the river to our camp site.  A lot of fun, but boy were my husband & I sore the next morning.  My tube flipped over twice & I went a little ways without the tube thus I became the tube & those rocks were not soft.  We had a blast & I would do it again in a heartbeat.  I had a digital waterproof camera with me, so I got some interesting shots.
My son Josh going down the rapids

The rapids I'm about to go in.

This is what happens when you go down some rapids & hit some rocks which started me spinning as I was trying to take a picture.  So I went spinning down the creek a little ways, just like an amusement park ride.

Wednesday 8 August 2012

One of the highlights of this trip was we got to meet my nephew Gavin for the first time.  It has been 10 years since I have seen his mother - my sister & she was pregnant with him.  Since this may not happen for a while I was determined to get some family pictures done.  My two boys & Gavin are the only grandkids on my side of the family.

Thursday 9 August 2012

We are on the move again, driving to Chattanooga, Tennesse for a family reunion.  I'm driving (yes I do most of the driving) so my son Josh took this picture in the Smokey mountains for me.

Friday 10 August 2012

This morning we went to Lookout Mountain to Point Lookout battlefield from the Civil War.  This is a view from one of the places on that mountain where the battles took place

Saturday 11 August 2012

First I need to say HAPPY BIRTHDAY JOSHUA CALEB!!!!  Today is my youngest son's 20th birthday.  Here he is a day old

And now today

Okay today we went to the Chickamauga National Battlefield.  This was an important stop for our family because my 3rd great grandfather fought here along with his oldest son James; he was wounded here & both he & his son were capture & put in a prison camp.  My 3rd great grandfather died in the camp but James survived & made it home back to his mother & 11 siblings
We are sitting in front of a monument in honor of all the Tennessee units that fought in Chickamauga on the side that has my 3rd great grandfather 's unit listed.

Sunday 12 August 2012

Our last day of vacation ended in Ten Mile, Tenn.  My family help colonize New York when it was New Amsterdam.  When that area became to crowded they moved to North Carolina.  After the revolutionary war they moved to the place you see in the picture, well on of the homesteads. The family was very, very large & they named this place Ten Mile because you could stand on this homestead, turn in a circle & in a Ten Mile radius the Edgmons owned everything.

Monday 13 August 2012

We drove straight home from Tennessee & arrived around 12:30am.  After sleeping for a while my boys went to our farm to fill the deer feeder, change cards in the camera & Josh wanted to find a log to mount his bobcat on.  This is what he found.  We took a picture to see how it will look.  Or course it will be cut shorter & the wood treated before it is completely finished & ready to be placed in the house

Tuesday 14 August 2012

I bought a new slicer/chopper from pamper chef & decided to try it out today.  It cuts potatoes (also squash & zucchini) in to wedges like french fries.  Of course you are to bake them to make them healthier, but I didn't want to turn on my oven, too hot.  So I pan fried them & they turned out great!!!

Wednesday 15 August 2012

Okay no pic today, spent the day unpacking & washing a week worth of traveling clothes for 4 people.  So here is a deer cam picture from last week.  Love how this little fawn is posing for the camera.

Thursday 16 2012

Our cats sleep in the weirdest places in the weirdest way.  I guess Motor wanted to pretend he was in jail & went to sleep with his head between the bars.  Silly kitty.

Friday 17 August 2012

Time to celebrate another birthday!!!  Today this little serious baby was born 22 years ago.
HAPPY BIRTHDAY AUGUST WOOD II!!!

Wood today, so proud of both of my boys & the wonderful, godly men they have become.

Saturday 18 August 2012

Okay I didn't take a picture today, so one from the deer cam.  This is one of my favorites, the raccoon is challenging the buck on food territory & the buck looks a little surprised.

Sunday 19 August 2012

My son Josh gave his mission trip presentation tonight.

Monday 20 August 2012

Since my son Josh has been home from his mission trip, every morning he goes into our guest room & has his personal devotions.  His cat Fuzzy has to join him every morning too, so I had to get a picture this morning of the two of them doing devos together.

Tuesday 21 August 2012

Filled the hummingbird feeder & they came instantly.  Because of the drought the hummingbirds are eating at the feeder more often, no flowers to drink from

Wednesday 22 August 2012

No picture today, so one from the deer cam.  The twins are getting big but still cute with their spots

Thursday 23 August 2012

Josh finally found a piece of wood to put his bobcat on.  He treated it & mounted the bobcat & off to college it went with him.  His school mascot is the bobcat

Friday 24 August 2012

We took our son Josh back to college this weekend.  We have a time share that my father-in-law has had since 1967, when no one knew where Branson was & the time share was for camping & campers.  Now they have put condos on some of the property.  The condo's we rent were built in the around 1990.  When we pulled in around 9:00pm all the rooms in our condo unit were not cleaned (the desk thought they were) so they put us in the newer condo's & this was the studio condo we stayed in.

Saturday 25 August 2012

We went out with our son Josh & some friends to an Imax movie.  We came back & I loved how the outside of the condo building looked all lit up, so I had to take a picture.

Well, that is three week come & gone.  The house is back to empty nest & a little too quiet for now, but I will get use to it.  Have a great week & God Bless.

  1. I love Wood's baby picture - what a face :)

You were "sort of" in my neck of the woods - love my NC home, although Ohio is home now too... I like Chattanooga too. Mike's great-something grandfather fought on the Confederate side & spend time in a Maryland prisoner of war camp. I've never done my geneology - I should see if I have any Rebels or Yankees (unlikely) in my ancestry.

  2. We have both Yankees & Confederates. On my dad's side the family started in New York when it was New Amsterdam & slowly migrated south then west a the places they lived got too crowded. Also they had very large families & not all of the moved each time, so when the civil war came some Edgmons fought on the North & some on the South depending on where they lived. My mom's family fought on the North, her family was from Pennsylvania.
